Gannet Safaris Gannet Tour for Cruise Ship passengers is a premium tour combining a fully guided sightseeing tour from ship side at Napier Port to the Gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers.
Begin your tour with a drive along the scenic coast from Napier to Te Awanga and join Gannet Safaris Overland, to visit the worlds largest mainland Gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers. You will travel in comfort, in air conditioned 4 x 4 coaches through Cape Kidnappers Station and it's International Golf course. You will traverse riverbeds, broad rolling pastures and breathtaking inclines. During the 16 km. drive you will stop at a spectacular cliff top with panoramic views across Hawke Bay. Having also passed through native forest and predator proof fencing you will arrive within a few metres of this massive colony.
The Gannet ignores human beings, but are a ferocious hunter of fish. It's airborne dives and ritual dance of recognition are a must see. The birds arrive at the colony late August and their chicks hatch late November, early December. They then migrate again in March.
Following your Gannet viewing experience your Driver/Guide will return you to Gannet Safaris 100 year old barn for catered refreshments before the 30 minute journey back to Napier with an orientation drive through the renown Art Deco district of the city en route to the ship.
